Welcome
Welcome to the Ministry of Trade and Industry! These are truly exciting times for us, and indeed for Trinidad and Tobago as a whole, as the Ministry works diligently in keeping with the Government's mandate to ensure that the country achieves developed world status by the year 2020, a process known as Vision 2020. The Ministry's key objectives in fulfillment of this goal are to: Position this country as the major Manufacturing, Transshipment and Commercial Platform in the region, Integrate our economy into the wider Latin American Community, then use this as a platform to enter the wider global economy; and Further diversity the local economy by getting back to basics, and bring about sustainable development of the Non-Energy Sectors.
As Minister of Trade and Industry, I am truly pleased to lead a highly trained, driven and committed cadre of professionals in achieving these objectives. Here at the start of the new millennium, our small twin-island nation has truly evolved, from a far outpost of the European colonial empires into a regional economic powerhouse. Today, we have positioned ourselves to grasp firmly the opportunities posed the new global trading system, and to manage effectively our responses to its challenges. Trinidad and Tobago's economic progress over the years has been due to a number of factors - our natural resources, traditions of hard work, entrepreneurship and strong familial ties, the cumulative strength of our diverse, multi-ethnic society and the determination of different leaders over the years to implement policies which move the country forward on a path towards sustainable growth and development. This Ministry is committed to ensuring that we as a nation continue to progress economically and socially, and to carry our governmental policies which are designed to ensure an enhanced quality of life for all citizens. I wish to thank you for the interest which you have shown in our Ministry and its operations. Regards, Minister Lenny Saith |
