About the Legal Department

The Legal Department provides legal services to facilitate and support the policy initiatives of the Ministry and its Agencies.  The Department’s present portfolio covers areas which include:
 


Drafting and/or reviewing contracts and other legal documents
 
Participating in negotiations relating to Trade and Investment agreements (regional, bilateral,     multilateral)
 
Advising the Ministry on Trinidad and Tobago’s obligations under trade agreements (WTO, Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, Cotonou, bilateral trade agreements, BITs)
 
Providing advice to the Ministry on matters related to fair trading practices
 
Advising on legal issues related to trade and investment
 
Preparing drafting instructions to the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel
 
Providing support to the Minister during Parliamentary sessions relating to the Ministry’s legislative agenda
 
Advising on employee relations issues
