About the Business Development Directorate

The role of the Business Development Directorate is to develop and grow business in Trinidad and Tobago. This objective can be further broken down into eight (8) processes which are captured in the Business Development Value Chain. The Business Development Directorate comprises three Units which are as follows:
  • The Business Support and Facilitation Unit is responsible for addressing issues related to the business environment in order to make it more facilitating and transparent. It has oversight for the seven (7) sectors identified by Government for development in its quest to diversify the economy of Trinidad and Tobago. 
  • The Alliances Unit is responsible for managing stakeholder relationships and strengthening links with State Agencies which fall under the purview of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Click here for a list of these State Agencies. 
  • The Trade Licence Unit is responsible for issuing licences to the public on items remaining on the import negative list and export negative list. The Unit also has responsibility for implementing import duty concessions through Minister’s licences’ as well as overseeing suspension of the Common External Tariff and the Safeguard mechanism under the CARICOM arrangement.
